AMR Stations

AMR Stations: Docking, Pick & Drop, and Conveyor Integration

Reliable, repeatable docking for every AMR workflow.

AMR stations are the fixed points where Autonomous Mobile Robots (AMRs) interact with your material handling system. They enable safe, precise pick and drop (P&D) of totes, pallets, or carriers and provide charging, buffering, and conveyor integration for continuous flow.

Direct Conveyors designs AMR stations that work seamlessly with our AMR toppers and your existing automation, ensuring accurate alignment, fast cycle times, and operator safety.

What is an AMR Station?

An AMR station is a fixed docking point that allows an AMR to load or unload materials, charge, or interface with conveyors. Stations ensure repeatable positioning, which is critical for automated transfers and safety compliance.

Types of AMR Stations

Fixed Stations

Purpose: Provide a stable, repeatable docking point for AMRs to pick and drop (P&D) loads such as totes, cartons, or pallets.
Features:

  • Adjustable guides and mechanical stops for precise alignment
  • Load presence sensors for confirmation
  • Integrated E-Stops and guarding for operator safety

Applications:

  • Line infeed and outfeed
  • WIP staging
  • Automated pallet transfer

Over/Under Stations

Purpose: Maximize floor space by stacking two docking levels vertically, allowing AMRs to deliver and retrieve loads without congestion.
Features:

  • Upper and lower decks for independent workflows
  • Ideal for high-throughput environments where space is limited
  • Compatible with conveyor toppers and lift modules

Applications:

  • Buffering between robotic cells
  • Multi-level material flow
  • Compact staging in tight layouts

Side-by-Side Stations

Purpose: Enable parallel docking positions for multiple AMRs, reducing wait times and improving throughput.
Features:

  • Two or more adjacent docking points
  • Integrated sensors and handshake logic for safe, simultaneous operation
  • Flexible layout for conveyor interface or pallet handling

Applications:

  • High-volume pick and drop
  • Order fulfillment zones
  • AMR fleet staging for continuous flow
